Abstract:

This 52-page toolkit offers advice for nonprofit managers on keeping their organizations afloat through tough economic times, such as the recent recession. The information is organized into sections on financial management, fundraising, finding grants and writing proposals, and other fundraising strategies. Using real-life examples from youth-serving organizations, the authors address such issues as preventing ‘mission drift’, hiring a volunteer coordinator, assessing needs to inform fundraising, diversifying funding streams, planning for financial sustainability, finding foundation funding, grant writing, in-kind donations, and involving youth in fundraising. The toolkit also provides a list of helpful tools and a list of online resources for more information.
