To reduce teen pregnancy and births in communities with rates above the national average, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adolescent Health Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, developed a joint funding opportunity through which eight grantees worked to implement and test an approach involving community-wide teen pregnancy prevention initiatives (CWIs). After 2.5 years of implementation, CDC staff developed plans for a supplemental issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health to present findings from and lessons learned during implementation of the CWIs. In this paper, the authors introduce the supplemental issue and describe common themes that emerge across articles, particularly those related to initiating, building, and maintaining strong partnerships.
