Abstract:

This article is part of a special journal issue on a set of community-wide teen pregnancy prevention initiatives developed and implemented by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Adolescent Health Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program. The authors provide an overview of the key evaluation components for the initiatives, including the measures used to assess program implementation and key clinical service component performance. They also describe an outcome evaluation that will examine changes in teen birth rates over time in intervention communities relative to control communities. The authors conclude with lessons learned to date in the evaluation of the project, focusing on those lessons that may be valuable for other local communities evaluating efforts to reduce teen pregnancy. Modified Author Abstract.
