Ask NCFY: Help for Someone Who Wants to Start a Youth Shelter

Q: What resources are there for people who'd like to start a youth shelter in their community?

A: The first resource we'd encourage you to look at is NCFY's "Guide to Starting and Managing a Youth Program," which includes helpful information on drafting missions, implementing evaluation procedures, identifying funding sources, and best practices. The guide is one of our most popular publications, and we're working on updating it with even more information.

If you get stuck on questions around licensing and other legal matters related to starting a new program, the American Bar Association maintains a National Directory of Pro Bono Programs.

For new funding opportunities and resources, make sure that you've subscribed to our monthly newsletter, Youth Initiatives Update, and to the RSS feed for our funding opportunities page.
