The National Alliance to End Homelessness and the National Network for Youth have released Counting Homeless Youth, a free toolkit meant to help communities that receive funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development include youth in their annual point-in-time counts of people experiencing homelessness. The January point-in-time counts are mandated by HUD for communities that receive federal assistance funds. The toolkit includes recommendations on how to involve key stakeholders in the count planning process, where to find homeless youth, and how to better collect data about homeless young people. In the months leading up to January 2011, the National Alliance to End Homelessness will also host webinars to further assist communities in their counts. More information is available in the youth section of the alliance's website.
