Focus on Staff

Photo of Phyllis HendersonPHYLLIS HENDERSON is an Abstinence Education Specialist for the Administration for Children and Families, Family and Youth Services Bureau. She has held key positions in various offices in the Department of Health and Human Services such as the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Legislation (ASL); Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE); Office of Faith-Based & Community Initiatives (FBCI); and the Office of the Commissioner for the Administration on Children, Youth and Families. Prior work experience includes Administrative Officer for the Patent and Trademark Office and 17 years of knowledge of and experience with the U.S. House of Representatives. She has worked on issues such as child pornography, forfeiture, armor-piercing bullets, gun control, software piracy, and copyright royalty. She has served as liaison with senior officials and staff of the executive branch, legislative branch, Congressional Budget Office, public organizations, elected and appointed State and local officials, constituents, and the public. She strives to be a “voice” and advocate for our children and the elderly. She is an honor student at the University of Maryland University College, where she is pursuing a B.S. degree in Social Science and a minor in Gerontology. She is active in her church and community. She is married to Retired Sergeant Major Wayne Henderson; they have two adult children – Wayne and Kimberly. She is a people person who enjoys reading, music, drama, and traveling.
