Featured Web Resources: Assessment and Screening Tools for Measuring Mental Health, Substance Abuse, and Independent Living Skills in Adolescents To help FYSB grantees and other youth-serving professionals choose the appropriate tools for their agencies and clients, NCFY has compiled a list of screening and assessment tools that are relatively brief and easy to administer. Designed specifically for youth ages 14 to 21, each tool measures one (or more) of three categories relevant to runaway and homeless youth programs: mental health, substance abuse, and independent living skills. Juvenile Runaways – Report from US DOJ Community Oriented Policing Services This 86-page guide describes the problem of juvenile runaways, reviews risk factors, and identifies a series of questions designed to assist communities in analyzing their runaway problem. The guide also reviews responses to the problem from the perspectives of evaluative research and police practice. ** The Youth Initiatives Update comprises links to Web sites with information on programs, organizations, resources, and publications relevant to children, youth, and family issues.
