Featured Resources of the Month

NCFY recommends the following resources for organizations and individuals working on behalf of families and youth. You may wish to utilize the information below to learn about new and improved ways to positively impact youth and families in your community.

NCFY Unveils Web Site Design Tailored to Users’ Interests
NCFY this week relaunched its Web site with a new design that will enable Family and Youth Service Bureau (FYSB) grantees and other youth-serving professionals to connect to the resources and information most relevant to their work. The new site offers four sections focusing on FYSB’s four program areas: youth development (including runaway and homeless youth), mentoring children of prisoners, family violence prevention, and abstinence education. Visitors to each section will find a literature database, featured resources, and news and funding opportunities tailored to their interests. NCFY welcomes questions or comments about the new site design. Please e-mail.

National Runaway Prevention Month Resources From the National Runaway Switchboard
The Community Action Kit provides a step-by-step approach to planning and implementing runaway prevention activities in your community this month, which is National Runaway Prevention Month. This kit contains ideas for promoting runaway prevention which can be used by parents, teachers, police officers, nonprofits, governments, youth, coaches, and any other individuals or groups who are concerned about runaway youth. The Community Action Kit also contains a comprehensive guide to involving the media in your events, which can dramatically increase the impact of your activity.

New National Child Welfare Resource Center for Youth Development Website Launched
A service of the HHS Children’s Bureau, the NCWRCYD increases the capacity and resources of States and Tribes to effectively help youth in care establish permanent connections and achieve successful transitions to adulthood. The Center can help States incorporate youth into all areas of programs and services, implement services that address legislative requirements, and prepare for Child and Family Services Reviews and Program Improvement Plan development. The Center offers technical assistance and training related to youth development, collaboration, cultural competence, and permanent connections.

The Youth Initiatives Update comprises links to Web sites with information on programs, organizations, resources, and publications relevant to children, youth, and family issues.
