Strengthening Afterschool for Older Youth through Policy and Practice: A Policy Brief
The American Youth Policy Forum pulls together a number of policy proposals aimed at strengthening afterschool programs across the nation. Included are ideas aimed at developing the capacity of the afterschool system; defining, building, measuring and improving program quality; ensuring access for disadvantaged youth, especially older youth; determining desired outcomes and collecting data for program evaluation; and connecting afterschool to the broader education reform discussion. (4 page policy brief)
The National Network for Youth annual conference, Symposium 2008, A Blueprint for the Future, January 27-30, 2008 will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. If you have an innovation, knowledge, experience, or a dynamic program to share, please send in a workshop proposal! Planning is already underway and they are looking for workshops that demonstrate the linkages between runaway and homeless youth programs and how they can provide youth with a ‘blueprint’ for a successful transition from the streets to a safe and productive adulthood. The blueprint can be innovative programs, projects, curricula, or interventions that have shown great promise or success with youth. Abstract submissions from everyone with something to share, especially youth are encouraged. Deadline for submission is August 1st, 2007.
