November is National Runaway Prevention Month
The National Runaway Switchboard and its national partners invite everyone to participate in National Runaway Prevention Month this November. The month is intended to increase the public’s awareness of the issues facing runaways and to educate people and communities across the Nation about the role they can play in preventing youth from running away. An easy way to raise awareness and show your support for runaway youth: light your porch or front window with a green light bulb in November.

Featured Resources of the Month
NCFY recommends the following resources for organizations and individuals working on behalf of families and youth. You may wish to utilize the information below to learn about new and improved ways to positively impact youth and families in your community.
From NCFY: A Formerly Homeless Young Man Tells His Story
Every day, the runaway and homeless youth programs funded by the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) change young people’s lives. In the latest podcast episode from FYSB’s National Clearinghouse on Families and Youth (NCFY), staff member Ericka Blount Danois talks to a young man whose life was given meaning by a runaway and homeless youth outreach worker.
National Resource on Education of Foster Children
The Legal Center for Foster Care and Education provides technical assistance and information on legal and policy matters affecting the education of children in the foster care system. The center’s resources include an interactive database of publications and documents related to the education needs of children in foster care.
The center is a collaboration between Casey Family Programs and the American Bar Association’s Center on Children and the Law, in conjunction with the Education Law Center and the Juvenile Law Center.
