Featured Resources of the Month

NCFY recommends the following resources for organizations and individuals working on behalf of families and youth.

January Is National Mentoring Month

Many more adults are needed to become positive role models to young people in at-risk situations. In honor of National Mentoring Month this January, mentoring programs can bring attention to the good work they do and encourage more adults to become mentors by using the free mentor recruitment tools developed by the National Clearinghouse on Families & Youth (NCFY). NCFY also offers a range of other resources for mentoring programs.

For more information on mentoring and National Mentoring Month, visit the MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership Web site.

Let’s Talk About Runaway Prevention

National Runaway Prevention Month may be over, but the effort to stop young people from running away is yearlong. The National Runaway Switchboard’s new runaway prevention curriculum, Let's Talk, can help youth service professionals and educators reach youth in grades 6 through 12. The interactive, 14-module curriculum builds adolescents’ life skills, increases their knowledge about runaway resources and prevention, educates them about alternatives to running away, and encourages them to seek help from trusted adults. Educators and youth workers can choose to teach the entire program, present individual modules, or use individual activities from the curriculum. The curriculum can be downloaded for free.
